DO NOT, EVER, use a non-vented fuel burning heater INSIDE a building, RV, or TENT, Do not use your stove for heat, Do not use a portable propane heater. USe only electric heat the RV's vented furnace or another vented heater.
Reason: I've know people who got lucky and survived, but it was a few days before they recovered.
And I've read far too many news articles where they were not so lucky.
One and only one exception to this.
I have seen "Torpedo" (kerosene jet type) heaters used in a garage with the BIG DOOR open.... But only with the BIG DOOR open.
I am one of those lucky survivors. I grew up in a home built during the civil war. During the winter months the bedroom my brother and I shared would drop below freezing. My dad bought a catalyst heater that was advertised to not put off CO. What they didn't say was it would burn up the O2.
During the nite my brother went down stairs to use the only bathroom and collapsed before he got there. My parents realized what was happening and the last thing I remember was hearing my mom and dad running up the steps frantically calling my name. I was grabbed and drug into the hall where I collapsed and it was over 12 hours later until I became conscious.
I realize I may be a little over zealous but I will NOT use any combustion heater unless vented to the outside. The bedroom was not air tight so there was some air exchange but how much is enough? All it takes is a change in wind direction or speed for a "cracked" window to be insufficient and become fatal.
