Most of my friends and me use Buddy Heaters, the kind with the ceramic element that glows orange. They're designed to be used indoors as long as you follow the direction and they're very nice to sit in front of on a cold day because they warm you with radiant heat. My CO detector has never gone off even when I tested the heater will all windows closed up tight, but the propane stove will set off the CO detector in a matter of minutes. The Buddy Heater's low oxygen shut off does not work with any kind of a sensor but instead with a type of pilot light burner that won't stay lit when the oxygen level gets low, thus the heater won't work at high altitudes.
