Suggestions on buying an extended service plan?

Skip it.
Put the money in savings and add a bit every month.
Cash is waaaaay more flexible than these plans.

My 2 cents, do not waste your money lining their pockets.

we have had the same travel trailer for 11 years .
we have not had to replace the water heater , refrigerator , furnace , converter , alarm systems or other major items .
the most difficult repair that i have done is replumbing the water pump .
the pump is in the front storage compartment and shared space with the various tools , blocks , handles , and so forth .
the insertion and removal of these tools broke the plastic fittings that came on the pump .
i repaired it myself in a california campground without moving the traier.
i got metal fittings and hose from the lowes store .
that was 7 years ago . i am now very careful around the pump.
a major thing i like about the travel trailer is that the systems are independent and simple enough to repair myself .
the interconnecting of electrics in our previous motorhome made troubleshooting a little more confusing .
i purposely flush and winterize , do upgrades , and maintenance myself .
we boondock . I don't need no emergency technician 10 miles down a gravel road .

Before you buy the extended warrantee try getting service done under your new purchase one year warrantee. I found it next to impossible to get work done in a timely fashion(meaning Months). The dealer does not own the warrantee responsibility, and the dealer must get permission from secondary suppliers before starting the work. The dealers shop also gets 120 dollars per hour from direct customer work and way less than that on warranttee wok

The best extended service plan for a new RV is to find out how much commercial extended service plans cost per month, and put that money into a separate bank account and save it up for when problems eventually come up. Most extended service plans don't cover everything, and are very expensive (thousands of $ per year). Fill out your warranty cards.

Early on I opted to be my own Emergency Insurer for my new motor home. I started a separate account and put $300 a month into it. My motor home is now almost 6 years old and I pay for maintenance, upgrades, tires etc. out of that account. We have replaced the front television with an HD flatscreen, We bought and had the Splendide Washer/Dryer Combo installed, replaced the King Dome with the Winegard Traveler, bought 6 new tires, and are looking at a major renovation replacing the carpeting with some kind of tiling, the dinette with a table, chairs, and storage hutch configuration, and the sofa bed with something that can actually be comfortable to sleep on ...not quite sure what that is yet. We still have the funds in that account and have even bled some off to help pay for some travel fun here and there.

I've always figured that if its a good deal for the warranty company, its a bad deal for me. They wouldn't be selling them if they were losing money on the deal. I bet that extended warranty doesn't say "If anything breaks, we'll repair or replace it." There will be enough weasel language in it, that whatever breaks will be outside the bounds of warranty.

i'd recommend you do what we did and that was to take the $ we would have spent on an extended warranty and use that cash to instead start a repair and maintenance fund. add X dollars to that fund each month or pay period or whenever. if you have repairs or maintenance then you have the cash to pay for them. if nothing major happens then you'll end up with a pile of cash. if you buy an extended warranty and nothing major happens you'll have, well, nothing.
