Suggestions on buying an extended service plan?

Purchasing a new 2014 Thor SR 24ft., I have a year warranty. Do I need an extended service plan now? If so, what company offers a good plan. Heard of many complaints with Good Sam. What should I look for in good coverage? Towing? How far? And towed to an acceptable repair shop accepted by the EW provider. Theft of items inside and outside the rv? Damage to roof if I hit a tree branch? Food and hotel if necessary to wait for repair? Any other coverage that is a MUST in the warranty? Thanks.

As has been posted before .
There is little in a travel trailer that the average handy Joe cannot repair .
Keep your TT a while and get to know the nooks and crannies .
    I do everything myself .
I had a water pump break down in the middle of nowhere , boondocking .
    No big deal .
I carry a good set of tools and some spare parts .
The best RV is the one I bought new and have owned for 10 years .

  • No service plan/extended warranty is going to cover all the things you listed.

Take the thousand or two or three they are trying to milk you for and put it in the bank. Then if something happens you have the money.

Theft is not covered by a service plan.
Damage you cause is not covered by a service plan.
Some plans may cover towing but probably very few.
Food and Hotel? - very unlikely.

You are talking four different policies to cover the things you mentioned.
  • As for your first question, I do not think you need an extended plan yet. Just remember that each piece of equipment in your unit has its own warrenty card to fill out.

You will read many pros and cons about Extended Warrenty plans. I myself have one on my TV and 5thWheel. I find it easyier to pay into that instead of putting money in the bank for repairs. I have used my warrenty on my truck with great success. Oh by the way its Good Sam and I feel that if you follow correct procedures they are no better or worse than anybody else.

The towing part is a different type of plan. It falls under the road service type of coverage. There again I have GS and used it many times with no complaints.

As for theft thats up to your company that holds the insurance on the unit. I would check with them on your coverage.
