Super cooling radiator?

On a manufacturer's heavy duty towing package this is one component. I have all of the other pieces in place except this one.

Is this a must have?

  • Is it an extra horizontal row, which wouldn't be much, or an extra vertical row, as in, a double or triple thick radiator? An extra vertical row could double the btu / kwh rating of the radiator?

Yes the larger radiator is the prime component in cooling your drive train.

I have the two row max towing radiator in my F150 that only came on the 7700HD version not in SuperCrew back then. But due to a misprint in the oem brochure Ford was required to retrofit as part of a settlement. When I am full throttle climbing in 115 heat the temp gauge just barely moves. If I had the original radiator I am sure I would have had to throttle back plenty of times. The original radiator had just one row.

Larger radiator takes the pressure off the other coolers to supplement.

I see. Based on the description above of the super cooling radiator only have one additional row...is that a significant size increase?

And a follow up. Are there aftermarket heavy duty radiators that could possibly be used?

You dont say for what vehicle but YES as a needed item. Some chebbys have heating problems (older ones), some fords have heating problems due to bad water pump impellors, dodges?

Anyhow the radiator cools the engine and that is the most important other than a large cooler for the trans.

Did you ADD all the other stuff after the fact or did the vehicle just not come with the larger radiator?

Yes, we added a transmission cooler, 7 pin wiring, brake controller. It came with a class IV hitch.
  • Super Cooling is a Ford term. A guy from an Expedition forum says "Ford's HD tow package on your 2011 included a higher capacity radiator. One extra row I believe. Fords calls them "super cooling".

I don't really know what that means, but "one extra row" doesn't sound like a huge difference to me.

  • Never heard the term myself. I've heard of the hd towing package, which usually means a trans cooler and sometimes an engine oil cooler.

What manufacturer is offering "super cooling?"
