SuperGlide Upkeep Seems Major

I just finished reading the maintenance required for the Pullrite SuperGlide, and "wow", it seems like a high maintenance hitch for sure. I could be over reacting, but coming from a 25 ft travel trailer, the hitch was very basic and low maintenance. Is there as much care and special attention needed for the SuperGlide as the manual displays. The environment must be deadly on that hitch, they also want it covered when not is use etc. For those that own one, it would be nice to hear from you on this, thank you.
  • The newer Superglides use WD40 to lubricate them. I just spray a bit on the rails and head before each trip. Its a good idea to completely clean it at least once a year. I have the Superglide mounting rails under the bed. That allows me to pull a few cotter pins and completely lift the hitch out of the bed. Nothing remains so bed is then fully usable.

The Superglide does require a capture plate to be installed on your trailers kingpin. I use one designed specifically for the king pin I have (there are only a small number of king pin manufactures that all trailers use). The capture plate is held on by a single bolt making it easy to remove if I need to tow with a non-Superglide hitch. Do not use the welded on plate!!
  • Mine has been in my truck since Dec of '05. I think it has been out twice in that period of time. Never covered. I use the WD40 when I think about it on the rails and spray the latch a couple of times a year. Adjusted slack once, IIRC. I have the SG rails that set on the pins. Never had any issues, works great and I like it.
  • My version SG says use WD40. I have about 5K towing miles. I wipe the rails clean and spray WD40 on them daily when towing. Max 4 minutes. Every few trips I spray a quick shot of WD40 into the head unit moving parts. It's not that much maintenance. Mine was bought in 2013 and is above bed on industry standard bed rails. Love it.
  • I had a 12k on my 1/2 ton and it only needed a quick spray of white lithium grease (Pullrite had different lube requirements each version) on the glide tubes before a trip. There is a single bolt adjustment to take up slack that I only adjusted once in five years. Never covered it.

I've had a Superglide for years in a short bed pickup; it works perfectly. I've got at least 30,000 miles of towing using it.

    1) I do not keep it covered.
    2) My Superglide uses a graphite spray paint on the rails. The only maintenance done frequently is to spray a bit of that paint on the rails and that is usually at intervals of every two or three towing days. Takes five minutes max.
    3) Other maintenance I do is annual and not difficult, just general cleaning, oiling, and an occasional adjustment.
    4) There is no other hitch I'd rather have than my Superglide.

Just wonder if you have any height issues since the super glide has no height adjustment, as far as I know......in regards to getting your 5th wheel level when hitched? Thank you kindly

Thank you, does your superglide sit on the super glide rails above the truck bed?

  • I have one, it was on the truck when I bought it.
It does take more maintenance then any other hitch I have ever owned (3 others).
It does work, and work well for it's intended purpose.
Since the truck is an 8-ft I have considered selling it and replacing it with a simpler and lower maintenance hitch.
