Tear drop travel trailers, do they sway?

I owned a 28' rear kitchen travel trailer that liked to sway (even with sway bars). I then moved to a 32' fifth wheel that has spoiled me and tows like a dream (this is my current rig). I'm considering down sizing to a Winnebago Winnie Drop 170S (2800lbs) and they look like they may have a lower center of gravity. If I downsize to an F150 and pull a Winnie Drop, at freeway speeds will it want to sway like any other travel trailer or not? Thanks!
  • Exactly. I've read of individuals towing open utility trailers (2000lbs) where the tongue weight is too light and they are experiencing frequent sway events. Proper loading on all trailers is key!

A F150 with a tear drop trailer will be a good combo but be vigilant on making sure you are loading it with enough tongue weight and loading balanced, side to side. Do not expect a sway control device to correct a frequent sway problem. Adjust loads to avoid sway first. A sway control device is there for the unique sway event caused by outside forces.
  • Any trailer can and will sway given the right set of circumstances. Light tongue weight can contribute to the problem.
