Tekonsha Prodigy "nc"

Recently, my Prodigy started showing "nc" all the time. When I apply the brakes, I get the 2 dots but no numbers reading. All the lights on the trailer work as do the trailer brakes.
I checked and cleaned all the connections on both truck and trailer side of the plug. All fuses are good.
I do not believe there is any correlation, but right before this began, I put new brake pads on the front of the truck.
My prodigy unit is 11 years old. Maybe it's just time for a new unit?
I emailed Tenkonsha support but have not received a response.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Also, COMPLETELY unplug the brake controller from the truck so it will reset.

I had a weird issue with my Prodigy when I replaced the battery on my truck. It was giving all sorts of nonsensical readings. Unplugging it solved the issue.

Finally heard back from Tekonsha support. That is exactly what they said to do. It worked.
Some times simple really is the fix.
    Thanks for all the replies.

Don't discount the possibility that there is a wiring issue with the trailer.
  • Check truck and trailer connection for loose wire and loose connection.

Another easy test is to do is either hook up your truck to a known working trailer brakes system or hook your trailer up to known working truck brake system.

Winning Answer! Do that first! That will eliminate the trailer from the equation and make it a search from the rear bumper forward.
  • The Prodigy has a lifetime guarantee. You should be able to take it to just about any dealer and have it replaced for free if it is found to be faulty.

  • "nc" = Not Connected, as in not seeing the trailer connection. Do the trailer brakes come on when you apply with the manual lever? If so, I would agree the unit can be declared "wonky" and replaced.
