Televisions in the winter

I leave mine in the 5'er hoping someone will break in and steal it so I have an excuse to get a new 40' Samsung LED:)

Operating temperature is different from storage temperature. Unless of course you plan to sit in your trailer in the winter and watch TV. :D

That said, I don't believe there is a storage temperature spec. And are the common carriers used for shipping using heated trailers? Probably not.

I would not even consider bringing them in the stick home. Mine have always done fine as outdoor TV's.

I bring mine in. We also have temps in the 20 degree range (BELOW zero, that is), and IIRC the owners manual says that is too low.

The first thing you need to realize, is that not all LCDs are equal. It's more expensive to make wide temperature range LCDs, since TVs don't need to operate at -40, they aren't designed to.
I just checked:

My take from the manufacturers specs, if you get real sub-zero, store inside.

Then there is the entire theft thing, LCD TVs are easy to sell, so they are often stolen out of rigs (or why so many dealers don't keep the TVs in rigs)

Mine survived last years brutal temps without issue.

I asked that question last year and the responses were roughly 50/50. So, since I prefer to err on the side of caution, I decided to bring them in. Takes 5 min's to unhook and they are light as a feather to carry.

We leave them (Sony & Sharp) in our rig as well and experience at least 4 months of sub-freezing temps.

We leave them in the TT.

I think our low was around 20 last year. We have always left it in the camper. Better safe than sorry I suppose. We camp often during winter month's so easier to leave it.
