Tire manufacture date marking

A new set of Maxxis tires were installed on our fifth wheel trailer today. I couldn't find the usual code for the manufacture date. The only code was 20ZD (I think).
Have the date codes changed?

It doesn't really matter unless the tire is asymmetrical or directional.

There are 2 ways to look at it. On the outside it's easier to read. But on the inside it protects it from getting ground off from curbs, although that shouldn't be an issue on a trailer.

If you are grinding off the date code that is near the rim and actually indented into the tire you won't have the tires long enough to worry about the date!

I did have them mount my date codes to the outside on my new Motorcycle trailer tires.

You are correct. That should never be an issue, but working on customer cars you would be surprised at what I see roll through the doors!!!!
  • Last time I bought tires - I wanted to see the date code on each tire before it was mounted, refused one tire. They got a newer tire for me. (Like most retailers - tire companies want to sell the oldest item in their inventory first.)

I then told them to mount the tires with the date codes on the outside. After they said the job was finished, I made them remount one which had the code on the inside.

    Yep......
Date codes are only on one side of tire

And when tire is mounted..it's on the inside!
I always figured it was a 50/50 chance whether the date code was inside or outside. I have some inside, some outside. I don't think the mounters pay much attention, unless they're trying to sneak some old tires passed you. :)
  • I don't know if it was done deliberately or not, but all the date codes on our coach are on the outside, making them all readable with minimal effort. Well, all except the spare anyway...

Hey! I just found the answer!!! I gotta look on the other side of the tire.
