Tire pressure monitors

Pros and cons about flow through or non flow through TPMS valves?
Our trailer is just wide enough to block any view I have of the tires, and I'm investing in a TPMS system before the season begins.
Thanks
  • Be glad your quality tires are also smart tires so they can avoid the road hazard stuff like nails, screws, chunks of glass, etc.

IMO advising people not to buy insurance because you've never needed it is irresponsible. And TPMS's are simply that: insurance.
  • Be sure to put metal valve stems on each wheel. The weight of the TST sensor will cause a rubber stem to bend while driving at highway speeds. This will develop into a slow leak (probably when you are out on the road) and the stem will require replacement, so you might as be proactive.
  • I have the TST flow Thru. I have to take them off to add air. Wish I hadn't bought this kind
  • I've had them for 5 years and love them. A couple pounds at the begining of the season and no problems after.
  • Thanks for the come backs. I wasn't sure about adding air with the non flow through type. I'll be buying them soon.
  • I have had the TST 507 non flow thru type for a number of years. Add 2-3 lb air in the spring and good for the season as my tires just don’t lose air. Sensors are smaller and lighter than the flow thru and simple to remove if I should need to add air.
  • I purchased the 10 sensor cap style kit. Mine are the anti theft style. They come with a lock nut that gets tightened from the back with the special tool. I thought I was getting the type with the spinning security covers, but I got the other style. I haven't installed them yet, but I'll probably not use the lock nuts. Looking forward to using home his season.
  • I haven't seen any value to flow through sensors over cap sensors. It takes just about the same effort to remove the valve cap on a flow through as it does to remove a cap sensor to air up. I removed the rotating security covers on our TST cap sensors, making them smaller and slightly lighter as well less noticeable. That also doesn't require any tools to remove them. And I haven't lost any to theft in over 5 years so far.
  • I have the flow-through TST sensors and would not have them again. The air flow is so slow that it takes quite a few minutes to add 5psi to my 16" trailer tires. I take them off to add air, which is just as easy with the non flow-through.

I bought the flow-through because I thought they would be more convenient, but they ended up being more of a hassle.
