Hi,I recently got a new TV--a Toyota Tundra Rock Warrior. It came with the offroad package and LT tires.I tow a 5k pound trailer (dry). What do you recommend for tire pressure both towing and non-towing?I know that LT tires come with a recommended max pressure that is quite high, but is this what I should inflate them to?Should I keep them at 32psi for daily driving like a regular passenger tire?What do you recommend?thanksMatt

Go with what the sidewall of the tire says.Unless it is an E rated tire. Don't need 80 lbs for that.

I personally go max pressure even on E rated tires and here is why.1. I tow in hot weather (90 degrees is the norm) and the more pressure means less heat and less chance for tire failure.2. The higher pressure you go means better fuel mileage and that is always a good thing. Now I know this is a very small effect but every little bit helps when towing.I know that some will disagree with my max pressure advice and show load pressure charts and all of that and that is fine but max pressure works for me.

X2 on the high pressure. My load range E, state 80 max PSI on the side wall. My door sticker says 65 PSI. I get better ride, better hauling, and better towing, with 75 to 80 PSI.Have to watch the grease monkeys, when I get oil changed. They always check the door sticker and let air out of my tires.

For daily driving, go with the recommendations of the folks that built the truck- as is recommended by every tire manufacturer. They don't presume to second guess the folks that designed the vehicle. Lots of folks forget that tires are an integral part of suspension system design, and ordinary operating pressure is figured in the design process for maximum ride comfort/performance etc.For towing, inflation can be increased according to load.

Or putting too little on your 'LT' tires...

Tystevens...that is exactly what I replaced them with!!!

They are on my Trek 1000 and also like the Bontrager's on my plastic road bike

Just make sure you're not putting too much psi on wheels meant for P-rated tires.

And BenK, Continentals are where it's at! GP4000 or Gatorskins ... in a 28 mm and 95 psi, very comfortable and yet fast ride ...

Go with what the sidewall of the tire says regardless of the rating. The tire manufacturer didn't put the PSI on the sidewall for 2nd guessing and probably doesn't cover the tire on the warranty for improper inflation.

P tires may have a 35 psi max pressure at 2500 lb max (example).

The LT tire pressure charts show us the LT will need approx 50 psi to get the same load capacity.

Look at your tire makers load pressure charts to varify actual numbers.

IMO the truck makers door pressure tag is a good place for a newby to start finding the best pressure for the job on a OEM tire. The owner can fine tune pressure from there.

assume the new carbon fiber for a few exoctics also have to meet this requirement)

There is much, much more to it than just PSI. Even on that, out of context to
say XYZ PSI is bad/good for any type of tire. Makes no matter passenger class or
light truck class tires

Some LT floatation tires (true LT class, not passenger car class) have
a max sidewall listed 35PSI. Does that mean all LT tires should be
aired to a max of 35 PSI...or conversely...should they then be aired
up to 80 PSI that so many recommend for all 'LT' class tires?

All out of context without the rest of the specifications. One size
does NOT fit all...even socks.

Like I run 120 PSI on a set of Michelin road tires and should I then
tell everyone to likewise?

Some times air them down a bit for comfort (a rarity for me, but do
it once in a while). Down to 110 PSI

I had LT C, D, and E tires on my two half tons. I ran 35-40psi empty and 50psi towing my TT. Check the pressure rating of the rims as 80psi is higher than some half ton aluminum rims.

Just to say, I have a tundra with LT tires and a 33' trailer 7500 lbs.
I run 35psi. normally. When I am towing I run 50psi.

Much of what I am writing is already done here, but here on a row.

Best would be to weigh your TV per wheel-pair and also that same weighing of the combination. Second best axle weighing. But as long as you did not do that we will have to do with the data you have got.
And that is GAWR's and GVWR ( Gross axle/vehicle weight rating) of TV and trailer, Empty weight of TV and tonge weight of trailer.
Then the way you load the TV for both uses so Towing and not towing.

Then the tires specifications of TV and Trailer, and that is Maximum load, pressure needed for that (AT pressure ( cold)), and speed for wich maximum load is calculated ( J ( 62m) to Q (99m) or ST (65m)).

then give that info all here in this topic , and I will put it in my motorhome and Travel-trailer tire pressure calculators and give you advice pressures for both situations with some reserve but still no bumping, so still acceptable comfort and gripp.
