Not the most ridiculous post in a long time... but close. :R
People can rationalize excessive speed anyway they want but the number one cause of accidents and the accompanying injuries and deaths is excessive speed... for road conditions, equipment, and weather etc.
This is a fact that can NOT be disputed. :S Speed limits are the maximum allowable rate of travel and they are set for ideal conditions, factor in poor weather, visibility, heavy traffic etc., and they drop dramatically for everyone, not just those of us who are intelligent enough to obey them. :E
Capt you're not only moving the goal post you're trying to switch games. :B Please quote me where I said it's ok to speed. The reason you can't is because I never said that or advocate it. What I do advocate is to never travel over a speed you are confident of going whether that be 40 or 80 or anything in-between.
Look at what you said in bold. If you read the links I provided, you would find out you are dead wrong about your assumption that "the number one cause of accidents is speed." It's not. In fact you're not even close according to the links I gave you. The NTSB job is to investigate accidents and make recommendations to keep us safe. They know what the greatest risks are and speed is not one of them like you so wrongly assumed. In fact it's not even on the list it's so low of a concern. Much like you were wrong about a law going over the speed rating of an ST tire.
I think it would be a good idea to apologize to hybridhunter for your comment that was wrong, but that's just my opinion.
Have safe travels and a good time.
