It may seem like a common problem but I think you'll find a majority of RV'ers don't even post on RV related forums. Most people come to these forums for an answer or need. So if you take the posts at face value you'll find the majority of problems with RVs are: Battery issues, holding tank guage failures, what toilet paper to use, where to put the cat litter pan, what can I tow with a ________, roof leaks and slideout leaks to mention some of the more common.
Our 5th wheel has two slideouts, it was built in 1994 with no leaks. Ours was one of the first manufacturers to add slideouts so you can rest assured the slideout technology has been improving since 1994. Leaks are rare on well maintained RVs.
You have to take into consideration only about 1/4 of the RVer population posts on sites like these. So the problems you see are more likely exceptions to the norm.
