Toting RV power cord

25 ft of power cord is a bit to move around.

What are others using to tote the power cord around?

I'm not sure what your real issue is since 25' of at least 30A cord weighs well under about 10 to 15lbs so that's fairly light ....

I just coil up my 30A 25' cords which have two velco straps to hold the coil together. That is like 6 or 7 coils about 16" in diameter and very easy IMO to handle. For longer term storage I do have a nylon custom sized back with zipper to store the 25' extension in. My main 30A cord is always in use since my trailer is along side my home and always plugged in.

When hooking up I only unwind enough to trailer from the pedestal and simply drap the unused and still coiled cord over the pedestal.

  • I use a cord reel. You can get them at Lowes. Just place one end into the reel, and reel / crank the cord in. Takes very little space, 4" wide, and 13" or so, across and prevents ALL tangles. The reel is around 9 bucks, and is orange. I have 2 cords. One reel for each. I also use the bigger reel for my fresh water hose. Same thing. Place one end into the reel, and wind it in. It empties as it is rolled up.
And they never unwind in the storage bin
  • My camper had a 30 A cord that was attached on the other end. I would just pull out what I need and plug it in.

My new toyhauler has a huge pile of 50 A wire with a twist in end on the RV end and 50 A on the other.

I was thinking about using a large milk crate to haul the cord around. Maybe I could feed out 3 ft of the outlet end and then coil the rest over it. So; I could set the crate by the outlet. Plug it in and pull out enough to plug into the toyhauler outlet.

Thanks for the different ideas and keep them coming.

I used to try to wrestle it around until I saw some fellow campers who had theirs coiled inside a heavy duty plastic laundry basket. I tried it and it worked great. I was able to leave it in the basket to store in in the front bin of my fifth wheel rather then lift it onto the storage hook inside. The handles on the basket made it easier to carry and allowed two people to carry it if necessary.
That's what I use and it works very well. The adapters also go in the tub so I have them if I need them.
  • I did a plastic tote for a while, but it used up a lot of space that wasn't needed. Now, I coil it into an ebags packing cube. No wasted space, can squish the cube to fit in odd places, easy to access and move around.

I use the packing cubes for the water hose also.

Well I have 40' of of 4/6 cable for our 50 amp service (SO cable), it all fits nicely in a 3 gal bucket! :B This even when winter camping.

  • I had a motor home and it just coiled up in the bin that was created for it in the motor home. Never had to do anything but feed the coils of about one foot diameter into the hole cut out for it. Took may 5 minutes.

  • I rolled mine up in an orange Home Depot 5 gallon bucket and it was a 50 amp cord.. Now I just press a button :B
