- DouglasCExplorerMany years ago I looked into towing a Bronco II 4X4. If you have the manual transfer case and can get it into the neutral, then it is towable. The usual problem with Bronco IIs with automatic transmissions is that they have an electronically controlled transfer case - - which has no neutral position on the dask control switch. I do not believe that there is a kit available to make the electronically controlled transfer case go into Neutral.
And has already been pointed out by a previous poster, the proper way to tow this vehicle is automatic transmiision in Park and transfer case in Neutral. - John_WayneExplorer IIGive Remco ( drive shaft disconnect ) a call they may be able to help you.
- j-dExplorer IIMuch better asked in our Dinghy Towing Forum. The rule of thumb was Transfer in Neutral and Transmission in Park. Remembering the Steering Column cannot be Locked.
In later models, the presence of a Transfer Case doesn't automatically mean the 4x4 it's in is towable. The Transfer Case might not have a Neutral at all. Or, it might need a special kit to get it into Neutral if it's electrically shifted. Or, the Transfer Case might be of a design that does not lube itself when the transmission isn't turning it.
You may have to dig up the Make/Model of the Tranfer Case and post that. New Process Gear Co. made lots of those, so a term like "NP203" would mean something to many 4x4 lovers, and a LOT to some of them.
