Lou, My tandem axle flat trailer story and I am sticking to it.
I drove down to Sikeston MO, musta been right at 20 years Ago and hooked onto a new flat bed tandem axle and hit the interstate. I used that puppy and loaned it out to a couple of neighbors for long road trips. Got paranoid about the bearings after reading all the skinny here and yanked the wheels, changed seals and repacked at about the 12 year mark. All looked like new in there.
So the trailer is 18 years old, has had a new floor and been repainted. I don't ever plan on pulling the wheels again. I jack the trailer up once in a blue moon and spin the wheels to listen for problems. That trailer has been to the Carolina's twice, VA, MO, AR, and beyond.
i think you need to do what makes you feel comfortable and maybe once or twice more than me. :B
While it appears you have had fantastic luck, I think you are the exception not the rule. :)
