- arnko37ExplorerI know of two shops that would smear a bit of fresh grease on the outer bearing so it appeared to have done the job. If you do it yourself use high temp. bearing grease. The would be a great topic for a seminar.
- blue_trawlerExplorerI finally got mine done! Better deal for the repair shop than for me! . Was that he sold super glide hitches and I had model number 4400 a *18 k hitch with everything but capture plate and had it on Craig's list for a year! Always covered and not a call. I traded him for the wheel bearing job for the hitch! So, I am done with that! Wish we had a KZ dealer here in our area again! We love ours but wouldn't take it to camping world as they have too much business and not enough people working! Thinking they have more in for repair than the have for sale and it takes MONTHS to get something done there! IMHO
Bruce - Dutch___DiExplorerWe just had our triple axle Carriage done last week at Menifee Tier in Menifee, CA for $150.00. They did a great job. Hugs, Di
- GPG52_Explorer IIFor us it is "insurance for peace of mind", We winter store our KZ with the selling dealer. When we drop it off in the fall we give him a list of items we want done, including re-packing bearings and inspecting the braking system. Cost is in the $250-$300 range. And yes they have in the past found additional warranty issues when inspecting the brakes. I would rather pay a little vs. having a mechanical failure on an interstate going through a mountain range. - waltbennettExplorerWell, I agree that bearings do not consume grease. I also agree that modern greases do not break down (unless you're traveling really, really fast all the time!). What I will assert though is that bearings and their races will put contaminants in the grease and over time this will wear out bearings faster. That's why one should repack, or (EZ-Lube) replace/refill the grease in your hubs. Just finished doing two on our '10 Montana that I don't think had ever had the hubs serviced at all, and appears to have been lightly used before we bought it last year. The grease coming out of the EZ-Lube hubs was completely black as opposed to yellow/red/or whatever color fresh grease was put in there originally. I'm going to try doing the other two tomorrow before our next snow storm . .
- Dr_QuickExplorer IIHi Scott 85: Sorry I have not looked at this section for a while. Even if you repack a bearings after 60K or 100K you will still find functional grease when you take the drum off. I have never in all my years taken bearings out that were dry or lacking enough grease. And some of these bearing have gone for 10 years plus. I believe that it is a myth that is continued to make a lot of money for something that does not need to be done that often.
- Okie1ExplorerIts a very simple job but does take time and time is money. I do my own and usually takes a good three hours or so.

"Scott 85" said that he added grease to his bearings once a month. I have worked on vehicles for over 55 years, and contrary to what some people think, "BEARINGS DO NOT COMSUME GREASE". Now you may loose a minute amount if a seal leaks a bit, but not enough to cause a bearing to fail. More problems will be created from over greasing.
So please tell the right way. I was never taught a right way or a wrong way. My once a month was normally a pump until I saw grease. What problems are created by over greasing? When I put grease in once a month it was normally done just to add fresh grease. How long does it take before grease starts to breakdown? - jevanbExplorermy 9 year old helps me and I think he could do it himself if he could loosen the lug nuts
- blue_trawlerExplorerJohn,
I have used this place before to add struts under my Rv and to ck my alignment. Also a friend of mine took his Rv there and had it done and he knows way more than me or at least talks a big game! I recommend this place to him also! Lol.
Thanks
Bruce
