Just do a search here for Maxxis and you will find your answer. Although some use LT tires, I am not convinced that they are the best for trailers as the sidewalls aren't as stiff as on a trailer tire which takes a lot of side scrubbing when turning sharply. JMO
I agree. LT are ok but are softer in the side walls.
have even heard old style bias ply tires work better than radial.
i blew out a tire on my boat and bought 4 new ones in las vegas nv. 4 years ago. good year brand stocked by dealer for u-haul dealer.
they were bias ply. the tire dealer said thats all they stock, as every one there runs them due to better performance in the heat.
can't confirm one way or the other but they do tow well (much better) than what i had.
Actually the LT has the stiffer sidewall as the ST sidewall stiffness is a compromise between a P and the LT according Carlisle tire and rubber. They referred to the ST as having a flexy sidewall to help with ride issues from the stiff ride of a std leaf spring trailer suspension. Flex = heat at highway speeds.
Radials work much better on a highway trailer for cooler operating and less rolling resistance. Many lawn service folks like the old bias ply tire for their trailers around town. Their cheap have stiffer sidewalls than the radial.
They simply run too hot for a highway trailer.
