Trigger Finger Problem.

I have a bad case of "Trigger Finger" developing on my right hand. Has anyone else had this problem, and especially the surgery to fix it? It is getting quite painful, and if beginning to effect usage of my right hand. I am going to my doctor soon, and would like more information before I go.

Thanks

  • I had this in my little finger right hand. temp fix is a shot of steroids. that hurt more than any thing else. raised heck with my diabetes, the blood sugars were high for about three days. dr. told me I will need hip replacement before I need the finger fixed. it is like carpel tunnel only in the fingers.
  • Mom has had two done. Fairly easy surgery what they do is cut the tendon sheath to allow the tendon to glide threw without getting stuck. If caught early a cortisone is injected to see if can resolve the inflammation of the tendon to stop the trigger finger.

The incision is about 3/4 inch and mom was back at work within 3 weeks as a hairdresser. Her doc told her that it was a high probability she would develop trigger finger on the other hand same finger. About a year later it happened and underwent successful surgery again. Scars are barely visible.
  • Damn. Now I find out I have something else. I just thought it was Arthritis and old age, like all my other joint pain.
  • My hubby put his hand through a table saw, three years ago. Luckily they saved his thumb, even though there is only 1/4 " bone and the rest wire. He has damage to his fingers. Anyway.....he got trigger finger in two. He had surgery and so far has no issue. He wore a splint for a week and then started to move his fingers. He had no steroids or pain medicine.

Before surgery hubby did have physiotherapy to try to release them. Probably about 4 months of 3 times a week. The surgery is quite simple, done in day surgery. My hubby was very lucky that when he had his accident the surgeon on call happens to be one of the best hand surgeons in the country.
  • Here are a couple of articles on it........

    What is trigger finger

    Treatment

What kind of work do you do?
Repetitive gripping or using vibrating machinery

Probably end up with a splint or steroid injection......long before surgery unless extreme

My buddy was a machinist and had to wear a splint for 2 months so that he couldn't use the finger/move the joint.

After splint it was good for about 5 mos. then started having symptoms so he got steroid shots

6 yrs. later he had to have surgery due to excessive scarring around tendon. Got most of the movement back.

    Good luck!
  • Both right! I have mentioned it to my doctor, and am scheduling a visit to an orthopedic doctor next week. What I am looking for is someone who has had the problem, and/or surgery to fix it. I would like to have some more actual experience information so I can discuss the problem better with my doctor. When you are on medicare and limited income, doctors work with insurance companies to make sure you only hear what they really want you to hear. And no, I do not have blind faith in anything a doctor says.
  • Bet you can get lots of free advise here. If it were me I would see a doctor.
