I'd leave it in place and silicone the edges to stop the leaks. - LwiddisExplorer III agree with RK. Consider tape too.
- rockhillmanorExplorerYup. I'd leave it and re seal the holes.
If those holes are leaking I sure would check the rest of the entire roof if it needs resealing or patching also.
If you ever plan on selling your RV you will have a problem if it doesn't have an antenna on it. Most potential buyers, if not all of them, will want an antenna on the RV.
If you just aren't using it I really see no reason to take it off. You are going to have to do patching on the holes both ways. - 2oldmanExplorer IIDicor. Lots of Dicor.
- Chris_BryantExplorer IIIf you really want to remove it, an aluminum plate a bit larger than the base. Cover the inside with an oversized blank wall plate.
- MitchF150Explorer IIIYeah, mine is useless when I go to places that doesn't have OTA broadcast reception..
But, if I go to a place that does, it picks up all the local stations..
At home, it picks up 20 something channels..
But, I don't camp at home.. ;)
I'd just seal whatever is already up there and just not use it? It'll create more work to try to remove it at this point. If it's leaking now, just seal what's there.. IMO, you'll have more problems removing it and trying to seal that hole than just sealing what's already there?
Good luck!
Mitch - wa8yxmExplorer IIII would fix the leak, but then I use my OTA antenna.
I do not know how big the hole is, but you can get EternaBond in 11x11" patches. this will cover up to a 9 or 10 inch hole.. Pre-fill the hole with something,,,, Body filler will work, Nice and smooth, then eternabond over it once set. - Cobra21ExplorerI would cover the hole with the aluminum or metal patch. Then put eternabond
over the metal patch. I use the Clear TV antenae inside the RV with better
results than the roof top one. When mine starts to leak it's gone!
Brian - edatlantaExplorerMy original crank up antenna continuously leaked through the antenna, not where it mounted to the roof. I had the "o" ring replaced several times that that sucker kept leaking so it is now in a landfill somewhere in MS. I replaced it with This One. I never use it anyway, but I wanted an antenna up there for resale. I don't know how well this one works and don't care since I use DirecTV 100% of the time, but it is up there and it does not leak.
