On one of our trips down South, we decided to stop for the night. Nice little Koa. We checked in, got situated on our site and low and behold we heard a train comming. Yes tracks ran right behind the park. Another surprise, we began to hear helicopters, looked up and yes we saw the military copters. We were in the vicinity of Fort Rucker. Found out they had been training at night. We continued to hear, trains, helicopters, until we went to bed. Both of us had a good nights sleep. We stayed another night at this Koa on our way back North.

My wife has tinnitus, we have to have a fan or a filter or something running to drown out the noise in her ears. The only problem with it is I can't hear the voices in my head at night! :E

We knew we were near the railyard, it was just we didn't know just HOW active it was at night! And the tracks were probably 10 feet from the front of the MH. I guess that's why:

a)overnight parking was allowed;
b)parking was free.

Well as much as I love trains, I am thinking BEING on one, rocked to sleep by the train's motion and the whistle several cars away....okay that's one thing...to have one rumble by so close your rig shakes might be a bit too much.

Yes, running something like your AC or a fan creates "white noise" that can drown out other annoying noises...but I don't think it'll drown out a train whistle;)

A Sargent once told me "If you can't sleep you aren't tired enough". This statement was usually followed by a lot of late night PT.

We can't sleep when it is quiet. At home we can always hear the ocean & we can always hear the tree frogs. Anyone who has been to Bermuda knows how much noise they make. Much louder than a Honda genny working fairly hard.

Most CGs we stay at are quiet. Some too quiet. We run a TV most every night. I am not sure if is deadens the sounds from outside or makes a noise so we can sleep. Either way it watches us. We don't watch it.

It's true, running some sort of noisemaker does work for some of us. The constant drone of a fan, A/C unit, what-have-you seems to block out other noises. Maybe not perfectly but the brain seems to concentrate more on the constant drone rather than the varying types of noise from outside sources. I run a fan or something similar in my bedroom even when in a relatively quiet area. I'm just used to it.
