An unfortunate incident

Hi guys , I was unhooking the rv the other day , and in the process of moving out the truck , the 7 pin connector got caught in the gap between the box and tailgate causing the wiring connector box on the fiver breaking open and destroying it . I ordered a new connection box and it arrived , most of the connections are straight forward but the breakaway wires that I am assuming were in the box are just bare , so I don't know where they connect too I have attached a pic so that you can see the setup and give a direction as to where these bare wire go to, they are the 2 black wires on the left

  • Fixed . Thanks guys. & yes I usually put the plug outside the tailgate as well but this time I was going solo and missed and I couldn't see that the plug was in the box as it was hidden behind the hitch & out of view.

    :B LOL!

Mine didn't hook under the hitch, but ON the hitch itself. I generally pull the plug past the tailgate, but missed that time.

  • Can't happen to me, I have a Bedrug bed liner that covers the gap. Covering the gap can help prevent this or You could just disconnect the plug and pass it back beyond the tailgate as a routine.
  • ChooChooman looks correct...

I had the same thing happen to mine, but I mostly got skinned wires, so easy to put back together, I had to rebuild the plate where the cord attached to the overhang.

  • Breakaway. 1 side to Battery + (Usually thickest, black), the other side to Brake (Usually blue)
  • If I was making and educated guess I'd say they pulled out of the crimp terminals of the blue and black wires on the trailer side.

If they did, the terminals are now loose and you will probably be able to pull them off and replace them.

Does your trailer have backup lights? I see the yellow wire coming in, but the trailer side wire looks like it was previously capped off.
