Unfortunate campground

That's the way things often turn out. I've been in quite a number of RV parks that are close to RR tracks or interstates. I'll tell you what, I'll take interstate noise any day over RR noise! I can generally mask interstate noise pretty well by running a fan in my bedroom but a train passing by, blowing its horn and rattling the ground like an earthquake is more than I can take.

As an example, there's a nice RV park in Grants, NM that's priced right and very well kept up but the trains going by all night long cause me to lose a lot of sleep. I actually spent a whole month there last year and when I left my nerves were shot...anxiety, etc. The nearby interstate was not an issue, however. This year I spent only one night at this park on the way to Albuquerque. That was bearable, but no more monthlies for me when RR tracks are close by!

So let see, if almost all CGs are near RR tracks, why are there generator /quiet time restrictions? :?

I bet I know what the campground you're referring to in Flagstaff is. Is it called: "Black Barts RV"?

I don't hate trains, in fact, I've always had a liking for them in many ways but, I DON'T WANT TO LISTEN TO THEM EVERY 1/2 HOUR WHILE TRYING TO SLEEP AFTER 8-10 HOURS OF DRIVING!!! Plus, that campground has a freeway just on the other side of it too. So, there was double the noise in there. If you like that sort of stuff, then by all means, jump in there and have a ball. We prefer nicer, quieter ones. So, the next day we moved down towards Williams and found a very, very nice and quiet National Forest one.

DH and I have crossed this country by train several times...we do love train travel:) If we've camped near railroad tracks we must not have noticed the noise...OTOH, we live just below one of the approaches to an airport and we also have the AF fighter jets playing overhead at times. Again, all this was here before we were and we rarely notice the noise. If it's very quiet at night, it's cool to hear the late night trains coming through town, and they're at least a mile away! BTW, this time of year in the South you need AC, makes great white noise while cooling nicely:)

One of our very first campgrounds back in the early 1990's was on the Columbia River Gorge. We didn't really know just how close the RR tracks were until we tried to sleep and a train whistled through about every half hour. :) It was a nice camp, otherwise, if memory serves.

when I first moved to Cincinnati, I had a house trailer and got in a park on the North side of town. didn't notice that at the back of my lot there was a thick row of brush/trees and about 15 ft further was a train track serving businesses.
the first night they coupled some cars on that track and I can assure you that the sound of locomotive pushing cars together made quite a racket.

For me to be able to sleep, I need to be in a quiet environment. Therefore, I don't stay at a destination that has a railroad nearby. And, for enroute overnight stays, I use Walmarts. My experience tells me there's very few Walmarts close to a railroad.

My 4 year old son LOVES it when there is a train track next to the RV park. When we were visiting the Columbia River Gorge last spring, we deliberately picked parks next to the train tracks. Every time we heard a whistle, we all ran to the windows to watch the trains go by!

Traffic noise does not bother me.. THe road just 2 blocks from the sticks and bricks was a primary and here were no houses between it and me (You could see the motor home parked in back of my house from that road) when I had a house.

RailRoad tracks... Well they do not bother me either. I love watching trains go by..
