- dodge_guyExplorer IIUpdate! Well on our trip out i drove 2 hours on secondary roads at speeds between 55 and 62. I averaged 8.4 mpg on the overhead console I normally average 6.8! Even hand calculated so i know the overhead is accurate. I also noticed the X wad able to hold OD for a much longer time, even on some NW IL rolling hills. Usually the X will run in 3rd with even the slightest headwind! I'm going to fill up before heading out and check my mileage by hand.
So far so good!
Another update. I just filled up for the drive home tomorrow and i came up with 8.7 mpg! Now a couple tenths of that is due to me filling up before the trip, about 25 miles from home with no trailer! So my 8.4 pretty accurate. A 1.5 mpg improvement is substantial! - fj12ryderExplorer IIIMy thought would be the closer the better. If you look at the semis they almost overlap the trailer.
- GoPackGoExplorerI believe placement of the wing is critical. It needs to be a certain distance from the trailer to be effective. Don't know what that distance is.
- dodge_guyExplorer IIThanks guys. maybe I can talk the DW into letting me put a mural on it! LOL
And even if I get .2 MPG from it it would be worth it!
I`ll see if it works this weekend. - WishinExplorerMy dad uses one on longer trips, he claims about a 1 mpg improvement. He's a fairly detailed engineer and I believe him. He's been able to compare it on many long trips. His is bigger and is for his 5th wheel, it is a pretty big curved aluminum model. He was told to adjust it to keep about 1 foot of bugs on the upper part of the trailer and that is what he does. I think most of his testing was with a 6.0L Silverado and a fairly tall and vertical Cardinal 5th wheel. He now has a Duramax and a more aerodynamic Cougar 5th wheel, he still uses it on longer trips but I don't recall how much testing he did with it on and off.
- fj12ryderExplorer IIIBut if you put on advertising then you become "commercial". :)
- BluhornExplorerI hope it works out well for you. If it doesn't , you can always sell advertising space on it to recoup your loss!:W
- dodge_guyExplorer IIYa I've seen those on the car transports (the ones that haul private cars).
- GoPackGoExplorerLately I've seen a few semi trailers going down the road with tailcones. Looks like they fold up against the back doors when the doors need to be opened for unloading.
- dodge_guyExplorer IISo in addition to the wing i'm going to need a 10 foot tailcone? Where do i get one that fits my trailer? And will it look goofy?!!!
