Unfortunately, those guys with their dogs are not capable of obtaining and keeping a regular job. Do you really think if they were of sound mind they would choose begging in the rain, cold and heat, subjected to ridicule and general disdain by the public? b .
YES I do. and your feeding the bottom feeders encourages them.
bumpy - Jack_SprattExplorerThey are gaming the system
And those that contribute - colliehaulerExplorer IIII guess I would have a lot more empathy for the panhandlers if there wasn't a help wanted sign in every fast food restaurant surrounding Walmart along with Walmart itself. Our local police dept will hand out a food voucher for those in immediate need and will give them information about shelters. I believe in a hand up not a hand out.

They have mental problems and addiction problems. There is literally nothing that can be done to help them. Our society has rightly decided that you cannot lock someone up against their will and provide them with the services that might help them. A free society means that people are free to live and act in ways the masses believe are not in their best interests. I don't see it as they are gaming the system, but rather they are not using the system set up to help them. It is a shame, but it is, in some ways, their choice.
After the shootout we don't have the issue of 'Wally Docking'
But there are the same guys set up at each corner with the obligatory pet and HELP sign.
Same guys, same corner....regular 'working hours'
Gotta given them credit for showing up and being on time.
I toss a few dollars their way often, and thank my lucky stars I am not in their shoes.
Nice try at generalizing 'them'
But that is NOT the guys I see routinely staked out at THEIR corners.
That IS their JOB
No upper management, no time clock, no taxes and pretty good 'wages'
Yes it is a CHOICE
One that these guys have consciously made...
So don't generalize and attempt to justify what I personally witness - westernrvparkowExplorer

I have posted many times that I don't consider WallyDockers to be a potential customers of mine. I doubt I have lost a single dime of revenue due to free options. I can't compete with free and don't try. That being said, since they are not my customers, I won't shed a single tear should every single free option disappear overnight. it doesn't effect me one way or the other.westernrvparkowner wrote:

With truckers needing to use rest areas and Walmart town centers going up, it's getting tough to find a place to catch a couple of hours of shut-eye.
Sometimes I want just a burger & fries, sometimes I want a nice steak.
I don’t expect I’m going to pay the same for both.
Are you saying if you ran a high-end steak joint you’d serve a $4 burger if someone wasn’t very hungry?
Or that McDonalds should have a $30 minimum charge?
BTW, none of your guests would be upset if I pulled in at midnight and left at zero-dark-thirty would they?
But then again, maybe I just have the unmitigated gall to be considerate to my fellow travelers, sorry, it’s a Canadian thing, you probably wouldn’t understand........
I can also assure those of you who like the free options, if fee based campgrounds disappeared overnight, those free options would go away the next day. The fact of the matter is on any given day the vast majority of RVers are patronizing fee based parks, only a small percentage are staying somewhere for free. If all those paying customers suddenly started playing musical chairs for the free spaces most everyone would be left out in the cold. - westernrvparkowExplorer

Yeah, this was pretty much covered in my reply to WRVPO. You should read the entire thread.
In my TC days, there were plenty of private RV parks calling themselves "resorts" that turned away truck campers. I didn't seem important to them back then. Why would I patronize them now? - down_homeExplorer III don't think we have pent the night at a Wal mart. One night I remember at a Flyin J, but never again.
As far as eliminating overnight parking by RVers in favor of more Revenue Generating Customers.
I estimate wife and I spend 300.00 to 400.00 when we do stop there.
Food drinks, maybe fishing tackle and what knot. Our larder is usually low by the time we stop at one. One or two we can actually get into sorta, for diesel but not many.
They get their permission to park overnight's worth out of us, if we ever use it.
I/we have talked with several RVers that have and do park overnight at Wal Mart and they to spend a good bit of change there. Maybe not every time they stop overnight. That is one of the prime reasons they stop there. Wal Mart has generally the same things cross the Country and they know where it is and won't take hours except in my wife's case to fill the shopping carts. She deosn't red the forum so I'm safe.
We should be concerned if someone else chooses to stop there. That is between the store and them. They say fine go for it.
As to the Homeless, we have seen many too and it hurts my heart to see older GM and other employees now living in their once new but now faded RV and not by choice.
All we can do is be human as much as we can, so to speak, and let the world go on. We can't stop it or change the whole of it, just do our bit here and there. - B_O__PlentyExplorer II
