Washing RV

I have no facilities to wash my 5th Wheel at home and I generally wait until get to a campground that allows washing. What options do I have if the RV park won't permit the washing of RVs such as it appears to be the case in the Phoenix area?

  • While heading south during the winter one year, I asked at an overnight stop if I could rinse the road salt off the coach and toad. The young fellow at the desk said I could, but there was a $5 fee which I paid. While I was working on the coach, the park owner came by and asked me if had checked with the office for permission. I said I had, and had paid the $5 fee. He asked me who was at the desk, and I described the young fellow. He laughed and said he'd be right back. A few minutes later he came back with the young fellow in tow, and the kid sheepishly handed me $5 and mumbled an apology. Turned out he's the owner's son and there's no fee to wash the rig. They just like to know about it so they don't have too many doing it at the same time putting extra stress on the water system. I wonder how many others the kid had suckered with the bogus fee... :)
  • Many parks have no washing policy. I have ask them if they would allow a person to do a “bucket wash”. If RV is not too bad that works fine for me. Have also had two parks with no wash policy, and when asked said I could wash it and rinse it off with a hose as long as I had a shut on the hose.and didn’t just let water run . Sometimes it just pays to ask.
  • Self service or truck wash. Most truck stops offer wash service.

Many truck stops have wash facilities that can handle an RV.
  • Look for a "truck wash" place. Usually located near major Interstates.

The one near me does a great job for about $50.
Saves a lot of wear and tear on my old joints.
  • Go to a well equipped self car wash and do it yourself; may want to take a ladder with you so you can hold the wand higher and get the upper parts of your trailer. Works best if you have someone to help you, and take lots of money for the tokens.
  • Some parks I’ve been to won’t allow YOU to wash your unit, but will an outside company do so as long as they use their own water. Check with the park.
  • 1) live with the bugs/dirt/road grime.
    2) pray for rain.
    3) move to a park that allows washing.
    4) if it gets windy enough, washing won't be necessary. The sand will clean it up real nice.
