Water regular

I must be lucky; I used the cheapo regulator for 20+ years without a single problem. Just recently replaced it with another cheapo, this one with a gauge (just color coded, not actual numbers).

Look at the end of it and you will see a very small diameter hole. The flow rate on these are inherently low and they get plugged up easily if not using an exterior sediment filter.

The Watts 263A is an excellent regulator and has a flow rate around 4-4.5 gpm. In comparison, a garden hose at home at full blast does around 5 gpm. I searched everywhere possible including a local plumbing wholesaler and the best price was RVwaterfilterstore.com. I installed the reg. inside under the kitchen sink and have it set at 60 psi (RV plumbing is tested to min. 100 psi). I also removed the check valve in the city water inlet and enlarged the hole with a drill and then installed a good quality commercial brass one for better flow. We never have a flow/pressure problem unless the CG is low.

I installed a "telltale" gauge ahead of the regulator and has hit 140 psi at a CG so far. (There is also a gauge after the reg. not visible in the pic.) If you install a regulator inside or outside at the city water inlet you need a hose or piping that can withstand high pressure as CG pressure has been reported as high as 200 psi. Our hose is good for 160 psi.

Yes. that is the problem.. The unit has not the capacity for a shower

There are several water regulators.. here is a list

The standard ones a 3/4" (roughly) cylinder with hose fittings on the ends part of the body.. JUNK openings inside are too small and can not pass 2GPM less there is over 100 PSI behind it.

"High Flow" or "HIgh Capacity" like above but with a bright plastic grip on the female end or wings on the plastic body to make it easier to tighten onto the high pressure source. A little bit better but .. See above.

Valterra adjustable: I have not tried this one but others give it good reviews.

Watts or Zurin (i've tried both) Mine are 3/4". but 1/2" should be enough.. (The 3/4 was cheaper when I got the Zurin)
When new these are fantastic.. I hooked the ZURIN up and opened the outside shower... Needle on my pressure gauge acted like it was welded to the 50PSI mark Did not even wiggle.

Same with the Watts when it was new.. But after a decade it was getting kind of long in the tooth and had regulation issues as well (Pressure dropped big time)

Both Watts and Zurin are rebulidable..

I also have a Sur-Flow.. When New I'd give it a 9, (not qu9ite as good as the Watts/Zurin) it also is 10 years or more old and loosing capacity. I believe it too is rebuildable but have not searched for Rebuiold kits yet.

NOTE The Zurin with hose adapters set me back over $60.00 and worth it. Got it at a Plumbing Supply

Some Camping Worlds and othe rRV owners have a half inch or there about Watts,, Often with pressure gauge, in a bag with hose adapters, sometimes pre-instilled.. It is not a catalog item at CW but a manager's item (Only selected stores have it) But any plumbing supply should have wither Watts or Zurin.

We use the Fairview inline 55 regulator at the RV Water Filter Store and really like it. We had a more expensive one with a gauge and it started leaking about a year after we purchased it. Since we do not adjust the pressure anyway, we purchased the Fairview and have been pleased with how it works and the water flow.

not adjustable not repairable like a Watts is. but not a total piece of junk, probably. come on it should be a one time purchase. spring the extra 20$

I looked for the 263A-LF Regulator on Amazon. No luck.

You got your $10 work out of that preset regulator...1-2 times use before they clog up

Watts or even a Valterra ADJUSTABLE water pressure regulator is much better choice.
I prefer and have used for 10yrs the Watts Brand. A bit more pricey but rebuild-able should the need arise.


Set it for 50# (static---no flow) enjoy.


FYI.....
On-board pump will not start unless city water pressure is low enough to trip pump set point pressure switch. And if pressure low enough then pump discharge pressure will CLOSE the city water inlet check valve.
So either flow if from pump or from city water ----not both
