Weather Radio

I use the Reecom R-1650. It is what many of the local emergency services use to re-broadcast the weather reports and other emergencies. Uses the SAME system.

http://www.reecominc.com/r1650.htm. You can also get it without the AM/FM broadcast band. You can also pick and choose the type of alerts you want to hear. And you can set it up to hear 1 county and up to 26 counties, or receive all counties. 4 AA battery backup for up to 185 hours.

I am with powder man on this issue.

Wife has an app on the smart phone. Instant weather map and weather warning also.

Took a quick look and I don't see any mention of weather alert. It is a NOAA weather radio receiver but alert means it comes on automatically when severe weather approaches.

I use the Ambient Weather radio with alert.

It has a rechargeable battery with a built in LED flashlight, a solar charger, a hand crank, AM/FM radio, USB charger, and weather alerts.

I have a Midland "Pocket" model (Fits in a pocket) that is powered by the house battery system, I do not turn it off.

All my ham radios channel 30 and up from there are programmed with NOAA frequencies, As they add more channels, I program more memories.

Why 30 and up.....

Well, the first radio I programmed, I put 162.55 (NOAA in the Detroit Metro area) in 30, so I made it a personal standard.

If your in cell phone coverage, its hard to beat the smart phone as it knows where you are and doesn't require programming. I use the weather bug and tornado apps.

But be advised that NOAA Weather Radio is not available everywhere due to limitations caused by terrain. Example: when staying at Nickajack Lake in Tennessee, the signal goes OVER the campground, but not TO the campground, as the campground is in a valley. Go to the top of the hill and the reception is fine.

Those are fine, I have a pair of them. :)

The walkie talkie feature is great when your backing in - give one to your spouse and no more yelling TURN RIGHT!!! NO! YOUR OTHER RIGHT!!! :P

That's what I have. Easy to take with you when your out and about. Either get the ac adapter with it, or use one of those generic ones with multiple voltage settings and tips.

I got mine from Radio Shack and it doesn't have all the bells an whistles on it except it does scan for a working WX RADIO channel when you first turn it on. This is a RADIO SHACK model 12-260 (Less than $20 bucks as I recall)


This one is hardwired into the the trailer 12VDC using one of the DC VOLTAGE TAP adapters from radio shack. I think the operating voltage is 6VDC. Mine is on 24/7 inside the trailer when we are on the road.

Wouldn't leave home without one.. Especially for us POPUP guys... ALways nice to know when the next wind storm is coming thru...
