Back in the 1950’s and 1960’s my late wife grew up in an abusive household. It was her mother rather than her father who was the abuser, her father simply allowed it to go on. One day when her two brothers showed up at school with bruises on their arms and legs the priest at the school called her and advised her to beat them with something that would not leave marks.
And that type of behavior and response is why paddles were banned from schools (and parents).

PS thankfully my dear wife was aware that what she endured was not right, as a result she was very careful of her behavior around our two kids. Don’t get me wrong, she was very strict but she was always fair and she never hit them, as a result my two kids grew into responsible adults that any parent would be proud to call their own.
