I will add my thoughts. In the late 60's divorce became a non issue. Fathers were marginalized and eventually became nothing more than a meal ticket instead of a parent. Children need 2 parents, not a revolving door of temporary daddies.
My father did not take a super active role in raising us,but he was an ever present omnipotent figure in our home. He had standards that he demanded, and # on that list was, "you do not embarrass the family.you only have one name and you will not sully it!"
I know that I will now be jumped on by folks that were raised by single mothers and how they turned out just fine.
Sorry but these are my beliefs,every day in every city you will see a crying mother whose child has committed some crime telling the world about what a good boy the little thug is.
Single parent households are the root of most of our problems.
If you don't respect the family you are not going to respect anyone else.
