You need to have your toad wired to accept the signals from the tow vehicle. In most cases it involves a series of wires going from the plug in the front of the vehicle to the tail lights in the rear, usually going through a diode to keep the flow from going back to the dash. I believe Roadmaster makes a kit. You will probably want to check around and have it done professionally. Places that install hitches or RV repair facilities should be able to do the job.
