- wannavolunteerFExplorerTent camping at St Joe State Park on FL gulf coast. Site was just inside dunes from beach. Thunderstorm came up, and it was raining so hard, it came right through tent and rain fly. When lightening started up, we bailed for truck. We could feel the static from the lightening it was hitting so close on the other side of dunes. The most scared I have ever been of lightening, and I live where it is common.
At state park near home first trip out with brand new TT, didn't pay attention to weather forecast and left awning out overnight. thought I had it slanted, but apparently not enough. The rainstorm that came through overnight dumped about 3 inches of rain within an hour or two. My awning arm & roller was not the only one lost in the campground that night. Park employees and other campers were great at helping out with getting awnings closed/secured so Rv's could travel. Still one of my favorite parks to spend time. - denlockExplorerWe were camping in Groveland Oaks MI a few years ago. A storm came in with high winds and torrential rain. Our motorhome was rocking and rolling during this. Later while watching the local news, they were talking about the tornado that touched down in Groveland Oaks.

- down_homeExplorer IINot sure but one bade n was in 2011, I think, in Coldwater Michigan. tornadoes sighted headed for the campground. None hit but power was cut.
It poured buckets, so much so we brought the slides in. The coach rocked much of the night. The soil there is sandy so there was no standing water. The chain of lakes was noticeably higher.
This past May, in NC we had a gully washer. They went around telling everyone of the approaching storm. Slides in and really heavy rain all night. No leaks but many others had them. Coach was scrubbed clean, including wheels since we were sitting on pavement. Several that had been warned to move off lower level and soft ground didn't and stayed a while longer. One of two had to be pulled out.
On the way west near Joplin Mo we hit a gully washer, while on the road. We could not see a thing and were crawling. Wipers had no effect. All the dirt and rock dust from around St Louis was thoroughly blasted out from under.
In Tx and Oklahoma and Kansas in 2010 we had constant very high winds on our left side. We drove, in Tx mostly on the shoulder. When opposing traffic came along they went to the shoulder especially semis. In Oklahoma it was narrow Interstate with reduced speed fifty fife as compared to 75 on wide country roads in Texas. Our slide awning repeatedly unfurled. The Dealer when they repaired it after they wrecked it left the metal cover off the awning and we haven't been able to find another one.
In Arizona in 12 east, of Kingman, we had lots of rain, then snow and then dust storm to turn it into brick.
West on I40 outside, of one,of them towns we had very high winds toss semis off the opposing lanes toward us but stopped in the median. I'll thing of some more. One of them has got to be worse. - Bird_FreakExplorer IIIt was in 04 my wife and I had a new mh and had gone to the keys on a month long trip. My Dad was at his condo in Panama City so we stopped on the way back up. We had a severe storm blow in and pushed the mh about a foot while it was on jacks. It also blew a crane off the top of the condo they were building about 2 blocks from us. Flattened a new Ford Ranger in the parking lot.
- Jim_ShoeExplorerI was in the Gulf Pines KOA, east of Pensacola, FL on I-10 when the sky started getting dark. The couple that owned the place went to every RV in their park, told us about the weather report of potential tornado activity and told us that both restrooms were built to hurricane standards and attached to the recreation room. They invited all of us to the recreation room, turned on the TV news and weather radio, and unlocked the Coke and snack machines.
The tornado missed us, but when I left the next day, there were a lot of trees along I-10 uprooted. That's the closest I've been, or want to be. - bearwayneExplorerSeveral run-ins with severe weather...
One time, while camping at St. Andews State Park in Panama City Beach, FL, the weather radio went off in the middle of the night with a severe thunderstorm warning. I got dressed and went outside to take the awning down. The next morning, we found out that our neighbors had their awning destroyed by the wind.
In 2005, we were in Valdosta, GA to visit the SO's daughter when Hurricane Dennis was making landfall. The RV park we stayed in was full of evacuees from the FL Gulf Coast. We decided to leave a day early because the weather was deteriorating with rain bands moving through. During the drive back to Atlanta, there were lots of tornado warnings along our route.
Finally, while making another trip to Panama City Beach on a Friday, we left Atlanta in the early afternoon under a Severe Thunderstorm watch. Along our route down US 231 in Alabama, there were multiple tornado warnings behind and ahead of us and we drove through some pretty stiff winds in the darkness. God must have been looking out for us because as we drove though Dothan, AL, we learned that there was a state of emergency due to widespread storm damage and the City of Enterprise, AL had suffered widespread damage due to tornadoes earlier. It was stupid for us to travel in such weather, and we don't be dong that again! - atreisExplorer

My honeymoon was fun, but you got me beat. :) - CampforeverExplorerOuter Banks NC on my honeymoon, 22 foot tt slid 6 inches during the night. We were at the KOA. All tents and most pop ups were flattened. Rain and wind.
Hurricane Glory in Fl. Came in around Tampa. Not as bad as the honeymoon though. - fillExplorerThree:
With a Tent and a motorcycle to Long Beach Washington. Continuous heavy heavy rain for five days! Fortunately I was in a Thousand Trails cg and just kept extending. The Cabela’s tent stayed dry the whole time.
On the beach at Lake Osoyoos, British Columbia; Night storm with rain and 60 – 70 mph winds. I carry extra rope and pegs to stabilize the Roll-A-Home. No sleep, but everything was fine.
Travel trailer in the high desert of So California (Acton). A worse than usual wind storm came up and branches were blowing everywhere. Cg ranger went to one
Class A and told them to move. He said he couldn’t his wife was in the shower and would be very upset if disturbed. An hour later they left and shortly after that their whole shade tree blew over, in the same area the shower would have been in.
A few rows from us a huge limb went through a pop up, No one was hurt.
