I'm glad to read that you respect the rules, paul. Most dogs have nowhere near the training your dog has. If people see your dog somewhere, they think it is OK to take theirs there too. They use bad judgement and make mistakes, just like the lady whose dog got killed by an alligator in the Everglades, while we were there, in an area clearly marked No Dogs. Dogs were not banned from areas for no reason.
This has happened in a Floria State Park also. The people walked right by a sign, both banning dog for the area and explaining why.
You have to wonder. - Blanco1ExplorerI was warned one day at the lake while working my dog by the rangers to be careful a couple of days earlier a mountain lion came down from the hill & on a fairly crowded beach took a families dog!
I assume it was a smaller dog, a mountain lion would have a fight on its hands trying to take my dog.
So there are always issues.
Oh & yes the rangers were fine with my dog off lease at this beach where there were no people at all but us, he just wanted me to be aware of the danger. - Jean_SExplorerI'm glad to read that you respect the rules, paul. - paulm999ExplorerWhen I see people not wearing a uniform, I have no idea how they will behave..........that being said......... I travel with my dog everywhere, and even tho he's been beaten, stabbed, shot twice, broke legs, and still has a badge, I follow the dog rules wherever I go. Reason is to make life easier for the park rangers and peace officers, so they don't get an uptick of dog calls, with owners saying, "but that guy had his dog on the trail."
- Jean_SExplorerMost people recognize and accept a service dog in its uniform and won't give it a second thought. The rules do make a specific exception for them.
But a 160# dog that isn't wearing its uniform is going to make people nervous. They have no idea how it will behave. - Me_AgainExplorer III

I dont see any reason why you shouldn't take your dog. Sounds as though you are responsible and pack out what you bring in, sounds as though you camp with your dog, I have been through there and have camped with folks that bring there dogs/animals,, Had a lady with a Parrot in here motor home,, brought it out in its cage during the day,,,It behaved didnt cuss didnt scream!!
My dog is well trained and well behaved and deserves to be with me. He goes where I go.
I have listened to comments from people that dont have the common courtesy to say something to me THE DOG HANDLER,( I am not his owner) he is not owned he is my work partner!!
What ever,, He has every right to be with me he has worked for that!! If you cant control your animal you and that animal do not belong in controlled areas!!
I have camped in strict control areas that some people should be asked to leave!! Let alone allow them to bring an animal!!
When I say bend the rules I mean BEND the rules,, If you and your animal behave you can go into areas that post no DOGS!! I have and will continue to do so!!
When approached by security or rangers or hosts I explain that he is a "Service" dog and show his credentials. He does not miss behave and stays with me and I have always been given free run.. Remember there are times when it is better to ask for forgiveness rather then beg for permission!!
If your dog is truly well behaved you still may receive a citation,, take it and show up with your dog, I have and have had the citation removed!!
Again, my dog is 160 pounds of Black dog!! You will see him but he behaves as he should and we all get along!!!
Research "Service animals" They are given allot of variances on restrictions,, Also, Investigation, detection and enforcement animals can be certified as "Service" Animals!! They are highly trained,, Handler and animal!!
If your dog is a registered service dog wearing it's uniform, you would not be bending any rules as it appears you are by your own admission. Kind of sad for those that have a real need for a service dog that had to fight for many years to earn the right to have their service dog with them. But like they say "there is one in every crowd"!

- Jean_SExplorerMe again: dog at concert
Me: I've been to parks where dogs are runninng off leash, where owners don't clean up after them, and where they are left outside to bark in boredom for hours while their owners are off amusing themselves. I've been at events where dogs do not belong and had to listen to owners trying to shush them or get them to be still. It's annoying. Believe it not, dogs really do not have much appreciation for music or plays and would be much happier laying on the couch with a brand new chew toy. Too many owners forget that their dogs are still dogs. They are not little 4 legged people and they are not objects to be tossed in a corner until required.
It was the dog licking its privates in the grocery cart that actually got me to complain to the manager, tho. - Jean_SExplorerThe link mentions boarding kennels, which can be the most reasonable solution. Fido is safe and well cared for while his owner(s) can enjoy the park without worry.
