Which State to pick for residence

if you have to periodically return for some reason, driver's license, etc. it certainly is isolated and off the beaten path.

SD will allow a six month extension on getting your drivers license. My wife's birthday is April and mine is in May so we got a one month extension for her. The clerk said we could get up to a year but other folks have said that six months is the limit.

SD now allows on line drivers license renewal but based on the the way I read the requirements full timers may not be allowed to use it because you have to provide two proof of address documents and most full timers only have one - your mail forwarding service street address.

"Online Renewal

You may renew your driver license or ID card online once every ten years, provided you meet the following criteria:

You must have a federally compliant South Dakota driver license or ID card
You must provide a vision statement (the vision exam must be within the past six months)
You must provide two proof of address documents (documents must be no more than one year old)
You must have a credit/debit card (Visa or MasterCard) to make your payment
You must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident"

Do not confuse ' residency ' with ' domicile '. My drivers licence address does not reflect my domicile . In Florida you may file a ' Proclamation of Domicile'.
that does not require you to actually live there or even visit !

The information applies to Florida, but I believe it is now in effect nationwide:

We just went through this in Florida. Since 2010, Florida allows only one on line renewal.

After that, you have to go into the license office in person and supply ORIGINAL Social Security Card, ORIGINAL or certified copy of Birth Certificate, and two pieces of proof of residence. (We used our insurance policies with our mail forwarding address)

Gathering the forms was the hard part. The actual "in office" experience was quick, friendly and efficient and only took about 20 minutes.

They told us that this was required only once, as they scanned our forms into a data base.

I am told there are four states that accept full time residents

Next door to CA is NV.. However the taxes vary greatly county to county.
And Texas.. When I was parked in NV I used to joke "I have to go all the way across Texas to pick up my mail" And so I did, Texas Ave was, as I recall, the last cross street before the post office.

In addition the Escapees club and mail service are HQed in Texas. you might wish to consider them, Just put the www in front but I'm not sure what follows, com, or org, likely com.

Flordia: For assorted reasons (Political) I'm not keen of FL. but that's may change in time.. It is likely where I will land when I land somewhere.

And lastly SD.. now the problem I have with SD is driver's license renewal.. SD is not a nice state for a 38 foot motor home on my birthday.. 3 months prior, perhaps but that's cutting it close. But it is the state I'm most considering.

I may pop down to Flordia and check it out some more come summer though.
