Whoa Nellie! Ever forget to Plug Trailer Into Truck???

the zip tie sounds like a logical safety measure.

Maybe some type of spring clamp that would be a a breeze to put on and off. :h

Forgot to plug in the Prodigy once. Took about 6 miles to figure it out.

I do a quick "brake check" with the override on my P3 as I first pull away. If the brakes don't grab then something is wrong....and yes I have overnighted hooked up, and forgot I unplugged the umbilical for the night.

Never done it on an RV, only did it once on the race trailer. Since that one time and replacing the entire cable due to it dragging 122 miles on the road, I do a light check every time and double check the brake controller before pulling the parking brake and moving.

At least you just forgot to plug them back in; last year I actually ripped out the umbilical from the junction box while towing; it got caught around a shackle during a u-turn. My fiver was weighed down to about 12,000 GVW at that point; I have a whole new appreciation for Dodge brakes and EB combo. Had to tow about 20 miles that way.

It was a very bight sunny day when my cable came loose in my truck bed and I had checked it 10 minutes before that and no issue, don't know if I'd noticed rv lights on or not as bright as it was outside at the time....going down the mountain, when I applied the brakes, oops.....The factory BC, also told me I was disconnected, when I decided to look at the dash information

....the other thing that "could" happen, as it did to me once, was while going down the Saluda grade on I26, a very long downhill, 6-7% grade, I tapped my brakes to slow down, truck geared down, BUT....my 5er's cable had "popped out" of the plug in just far enough to not give power to the 5er....( had an OEM BC), it showed "trailer not connected" when I hit my brakes. I got slowed down using the brakes on the truck, pulled over and reconnected, but did a better job of it this time, where it locked into place....The brakes on the truck had to slow everything down and I COULD tell a difference without the trailer brakes doing their job.

Trailer brakes worked great, BUT, the Trucks brakes also did their job...one of those times when I had no trailer brakes and it was all on the trucks brakes, the EB and tranny gearing down....so when some say the trailer brakes stop/brake for the trailer, they are 100% correct, UNLESS, something happens to the connection between the TV and what ever it is one is towing, THEN, one best hope their TV's brakes are up to the task of slowing or stopping...Glad my truck brakes were up for the job:)

I do a an initial test by pulling forward and engaging the TT brakes with the lever, and as mentioned by Tom&Dee a walk around for lights is important too.

This^. Light check before ever moving down the road. Must've learned it from my parents.
