On a general basis, I agree with this. But what is good for the goose is good for the gander. As it stands today, these are the rule of engagement.
Just wait and watch for the thread to be selectively edited to slant against one side. Already I've seen several threads where the offense is allowed to remain, yet all the rebuttals were removed by mods.
Ordinary posters cannot do anything about it, all moderation is subjective. So the next logical step is to nip it in the bud early and prevent it from taking root.
I don't expect much of a result, as some only take it as an opportunity to dogpile- also an unfortunate sport of opportunity.
Not much to do now but wait for it to play out and see whose character is revealed along the way
