Winterized today, but not done with the camper yet

Yup, I waited as long as possible. Suppose to get somewhere between 25-30 degrees by Saturday morning. So, figured it was finally time. Indiana weather has been very good to us this year.

But, we're not putting the camper up yet. Actually, I brought the old port-a-potty inside, put plastic tubs in the sink, still have the electric hooked up, and have space heaters running along with the propane furnace. Yup! Still sleeping in it every night! I don't see that changing any time too soon.

Of course, we have the full functioning house right on the other side of the driveway, but who wants to hang out in the house when you've got the world's best camper! Hum?

Drained all the tanks tonight also. I flushed and flushed and flushed the black tank, clean everything out as good as I could. It's nice to be able to do that at home. But now, I'll have to drag the port-a-potty inside every morning to dump it. No biggie, we've been doing this for years!

We don't have any camp outs planned until the week after Christmas when we'll be taking the camper to South Carolina for a week, and hope we don't get snowed OUT of Indiana. It would be a really bad thing if we got snowed out and couldn't return to work! Now wouldn't that be just awful! :B

So, tonight we're enjoy the comforts of the camper again, but no more running water. I am grateful for the lessons we learn after years and years of tent camping and how to adapt with no running water. But it's not the end of the world, the house is right here.

So now ... let the "good times" continue to roll! Our doggie and our cat absolutely love this camper. I think they actually own it and just let us sleep in it! Our home WIFI pick up just fine inside the camper, so our television and computers all connect to the internet, and we're just having a great time!

And oh ... it's really a great experience to turn the heat down at night, flip on the electric blanket, and snuggle all night! That darn cat sleeps on top of us, and the dog has to sleep between us ... UNDER the covers! But you know? Life IS great!
  • It should be ski season in the Rockies... My son and I camped near Salida
(7000 ft) last weekend and mountain biked the monarch crest (11,500 ft), Rainbow trail and the Cottonwood loop during a 3 day weekend. Got down to 29 or 30 degrees a couple nights. 60-70 degrees during the day. No snow at 12,000 ft when we road the Crest. Delaying the winterizing of mine as well. May head out next weekend as its looking like the warm weather will hold. Gotta keep the wheels rolling before old man winter takes hold. Our 5er sits next to the house and we keep the slide out. Had a fire outside tonight right next to it in the rolling fire pit. Feels like camping to me.
  • What is this "winterized" you speak of???

Just kidding. For DW and me, this is just the start of our regular camping season but I do winterize, to a degree, between trips. That includes opening all the low-point drains and faucets and using a compressor to blow out all the lines. I also put some antifreeze in the "P-traps" so they won't freeze and crack. If it is going to be below freezing for a number of days, I add a little antifreeze to the toilet water, as well. Beyond that, the trailer remains ready to go at a moment's notice.

    Happy Camping!
  • Wow.....I went out to wash the RV today, but it was 92 degrees. I didn't want to work that hard in the heat. I'll wait until the cool spell next week, low 80's.:)

Why do you even own a house?? Why not buy a piece of land and full time?

Sometimes I really do think we bought the house just so we have somewhere to full time! :W
