Some of the RV manufacturing companies turned to building them for FEMA and were just as poorly constructed as their RVs.
FEMA, never bought RVs
They bought EMG mfg housing
That was more like conventional mobile homes - MrWizardModeratorFEMA, never bought RVs

With catastrophic flooding in Houston I wonder if they will use RV'S for temporary housing?
That is a very good question. With the RV industry running full tilt to keep up with current demand, large orders from FEMA could really be a problem nationwide. It's just a shame that the trailers bought for past catastrophes were left to rot.
That won't happen this time in the Houston area. And when the recipients no longer need them they will be in very good shape to sell unlike the Katrina ones. - DutchmenSportExplorerI don't think FEMA should invest in temporary housing using RV for the Huston area! No, no! They should start issuing pontoon house boats!

And many of us think RVs are poorly built now. If fema starts purchasing, we haven't seen what shoddy workmanship and cutting corners really looks like.colliehauler wrote:

The last time fema bought RVs, many went unused because of sloppy construction and formaldehyde out gassing from the insulation that was used. - westendExplorerThat would be a problem I'd love to have if I was an RV Mfg. I could build another RV plant pretty goldurn fast.
Like you say, though, Lynmor, with the problems turned up by Katrina, it may be better ROI to build out apartments.
BTW, my heart and prayers go out to the misfortunate Texans that have been displaced by Harvey. - LynnmorExplorer
