- DuctapeExplorerYou can pump your own gas in a motorcycle.
But it's still against the law to hang the nozzle back on the pump yourself.
Thank you Nanny! - All_I_could_affExplorerJust think how clean you can get that windshield during your eight hour fill up !

Great time to switch to an electric vehicle.
No fumes, no spills, fill-up at home in the warm dry garage, less time standing and waiting, no leaving the kids unattended in the car, and as easier to plug in than a vacuum cleaner.
Sounds like one too. - agesilausExplorer III

OMG. I might smell like gas.
One other statement I read was " I have no idea how to run those pumps"

Off course it does take 8 or 10 hours for a 'fill up' - Ralph_CramdenExplorer II

Oregon is a big strange but some would argue that your ultimate gas price is determined by the distributors and tax authorities and not by the minimum wage earned by gas attendants --- goes against the basic econ rules we learned 40+ years ago but "free market" ain't so free when there are limited number of distributors.
Oregon laws remain in effect because everytime someone tries to overturn the the law people point out that the gas in nearby states is usually higher than Oregon.
Basic economic rules would dictate that the wages and other associated costs for maintaining employees get passed down to the consumer. I find it hard to beleive there are many gas station operators in Oregon or anywhere else that provide that service out of the goodness of their own heart, and on their own dime. There is not much of a profit margin on fuel at the retail level to begin with, which is why the vast majority of gas stations are now convenience stores.
Here in PA the places that pump your gas, of which there are few, are typically 8 to 15 cents higher per gallon. - Isaac-1ExplorerI spent a week in New Jersey a couple of years ago on business, one of those continuing education training course sort of things, about half the people in the class were relatively local, and one day the topic of not being able to pump your own gas came up. There were some interesting takes on it, but mostly it seemed to be a cultural thing, the attitude of the locals was it gives the teen age kids a place to work, many of them had worked pumping gas themselves as a first job while growing up, and many had kids that did so. So while on one hand they see it as wasteful, on the other they see it as generating a steady supply of easy fairly safe first jobs for their kids.
- ROBERTSUNRUSExplorer:) Hi, I don't mind too much about having them pump my gas in Oregon because it does give people a job. What I don't like, especially if I'm traveling with my trailer, is the fact that they hang up the nozzle when the pump clicks off. In my F-150, when the pump clicks off, it's full. In my Navigator, when the pump clicks off, it will hold about 3 more gallons and that's good for about 30 more miles.
- ROBERTSUNRUSExplorer:) Hi, I spent my whole life in Southern California and then we moved to Oregon. I pumped my own gas a few times and didn't get into trouble. One time I was next to a guy from Arizona and he told me that he got his @$$ chewed for pumping his own gas in Oregon.
At the Indian Casinos, in Oregon, you can pump your own gas legally. Or they will do it for you.
At a gas station in Weed, California I was in line for the next gas pump. I was traveling and had my trailer connected to my truck. I got out of my truck while waiting for the person in front of me to finish. OK, never in my 70+ years of my life did I see someone remove the gas nozzle from his pick-up truck with the gas flowing full blast. He dropped the nozzle and touched something on the pump and the gas shut off. My wife and I then noticed that his truck had Oregon plates on it. I guess that he never pumped his own gas before. :E - goducks10Explorer

I simply don't like the thought of some yokel bureaucrat tell me I'm not smart enough to operate a gas pump.

I was laughing at the time when this couple driving a Tesla had arrived at the hotel and asked where they could plug in their car. Last time I saw them, they were in the pouring rain with their umbrellas, rummaging around in the bushes looking for an outlet.
