!*&%^$#@! Awning Will Not Unroll All the Way

if I bent the rod to lock the awning
i would not be able to 'stick in the slot' with out a ladder
and i would need a new rod to open the awning

that bent rod trick might work for you tall guys
it won't work for me

so far normal procedures are all i have ever needed

If the spring is broken and you want to lock the roller till you can get it fixed try this. Re-bend the awning pull down rod so the bend that pulls the loop is about 10 inches or more long. walk to the back of the roller tube. You should be able to see a hole in the roller end cap this is the same hole you use to replace the pull down strap. stick the pull down rod into this hole now the rod will be hanging down along the side of the awning arm with the loop at the bottom. get a lenght of rope run it through the awning rod loop and a hole on the awning leg foot. Tie the ends of the rope together pulling it tight and your awning roller is now locked in place and can not unroll. No need to buy special awning locks.

Spent couple hours messing with awning......Now I am no newbie. I have rolled up MANY a awning.
Dang blasted awning just would NOT roll up for nothing.'

THEN asks do you have to release or do something with THESE? (pointing to sliding support arm-----which I did NOT unlock)

Either support arms are still 'tight' OR broken spring binding OR lock lever is reengaging/not allowing full travel
Spring or lock lever...got to open it UP

Been there done that once.

I believe the problem may be "spring bind". When the coils can't rub each other smoothly they get bound up. You may have to unwind and rewind them manually to release the bind. If one of the springs were broken the awning would fall open and not wind up when retracted.

If it is not the spring try this:

When your awning rolls up the top of the each arm locks into a lip on top by the roof.

I've had mine where when you tried to unroll the awning it stops because the arm have not come out of that lip.

Take a look and if that's it all you have to do is lift the arm up out of that lip and the awning will roll down. This is due to bolts loose where it attaches to the side of the MH.

12 hour shake out of a 17 year old awning. I am the only one testing everything two weeks out?

I agree with the others,one of the best things to get is a Awning Lock this will insure that your awning will not unfurl while going down the highway,strapping the arms with those velcro straps will not keep it from unfurling.
