- Johno02ExplorerActually, there are 3 12v breakers from battery. I connected to breaker, 12ga to 15A fuse, 12ga to outlet. Protected by both breaker and fuse.
- wa8yxmExplorer IIIAlmot.. I can not speak to his RV but in mine the power leads to the main fuse box can safely haul 80 amps, they are seriously THICK (Way bigger than 10 ga, closer to 4 or six ga) that is where he tapped in his 12ga.
NEVER hook a larger "Load" wire (The wire from the fuse box to the device) to a smaller "Supply" (The wires to the fuse box from the battery/converter) less you really love visits from firemen.
Examples
Battery==4ga====fuse==12ga GOOD
Battery--12ga----fuse---8ga BAD - pianotunaNomad IIIHi Almot,
I think he has by passed the 12 volt power distribution fuse box and gone directly to the main 12 volt breaker. - AlmotExplorer III

Installed a 12V power outlet, NOT a cheap "12v outlet". Installed on 12Ga wire, fused to main coach power circuit breaker. Use it for 400W inverter to power computer, Printer, phone charger, Nook charger, and just about anything I need. It is on a 15A fuse.
With #12 wire on the outlet, and thinner wire (#16?) throughout the rest of the rig, can anybody explain me how this would solve the problem? - ShutterStuffExplorer

One table top location I use one of these USB CELL PHONE type receptacles to be able to charge cell phones etc which is pretty neat...
Where did you get the dual USB outlet? - Canadian_RainbiExplorerWhile travelling, 2 GPSs and a small inverter for the notebook computer. We use the notebook for the Silverleaf PC program and now have mapping and GPS to put in there. When dry camping, we use them for charging cellphones etc.
The supply wires were not adequate for small inverter so we had them upgraded to #10. - OzlanderExplorer

do you have to buy a plug that will fit that 12v outlet?
Only if you want to use it. - vermilyeExplorerI power a laptop, a bunch of different chargers, a 3 watt cell phone amplifier, a WiFi Ranger router, a 300 watt inverter, and a Sony iPhone docking station.
- D_E_BishopExplorerHere is an example of our use while traveling with the DGKs. TVs, DSs, Ipods, nightlight in bathroom, laptops, cellphones, GPS and Dashcam. We have two inverters, one hard wired and one in a outlet.

X2, they usually put REALLY thin wire on those and the sockets themselves are not rated to handle much power. They expect it to be used like one's in your car, for charging phones and such. Marinco does make a 15 amp socket and you could wire up some properly sized wire to that and run heavier duty devices from it like old 12V tube screen TV's.
Don't! They suck. Use the socket for stuff you would normally charge in your car/truck. Maybe a small inverter (definitely under 300 watts)
