12 volt pump to seven pin

I have a portable water tank with a 12 volt pump that I want to wire to a seven pin connector so I can plug it in to the truck to operate.
Does anybody know which pins to use? Tried using the white and black, but have to turn ignition on for it to work.
Want it to work with ignition off.

thx
  • You could always put a female end to your water pump and use the trailer seven pin connector. You always have constant on power at the trailer.
  • Well, I am using a seven pin because I have one laying around, and the connection is in the box which is handy.
According to the diagram above, I should be able to do positive(red) to black and negative(black) to white, yes/no?
This is what I did but it won't work unless the ignition is on??
Is it because it's a Ford? The neighbor's works on his Chevy....

You have it wired correctly, but your truck has a disconnect installed that shuts off trailer power when the ignition is off.

Perhaps a Ford guru can speak to any possibility of bypassing the disconnect.
  • I used the 4 pin connector instead of the 7pin

This is mine. When using it I just turn the parking lights on turn lights off when finished.
