I respectfully ask that we not turn this into a Honda vs. Chinese imports contest. I personally will tell you I would rather have the 3000 watt Honda inverter with electric start. I would also prefer to have a real Ferarri rather than my kit car clone . But, life is real and so is the pocketbook......
I spent some time on the phone the other day trying to get some info from Pep Boys about Nikota and ELIM. I finally got hooked up with a guy who told me a little more than the first two I talked with. He wasn't overly sharing, but he would not dispute several items I poised to him. I cannot promise all of this is true, so take it with a grain of salt.
Nikota is apparently out of business. Pep Boys will sell off existing Nikota inventory, including the Nikota 3500 generators, but there will be no new Nikota products in their stores once they are gone. The fact that there were no Nikota products advertised in this Sunday's sales flier pretty much supports this.
The ELM3000 generator has not been discontinued by Pep Boys. But, the inventory from their initial purchase from ELIM is almost exhausted. Pep Boys may continue to carry the ELM3000, but it will most likely be at a higher price than current stock. There was a rather disconnected statement from the guy I was talking with about ELIM darn near giving the generators to Pep Boys on the first round. Apparently, this was to see how they sold, but ELIM could not continue to sell to Pep Boys at such a low price without an increased volume commitment. Negotations at this point do not appear to be complete.
Not surprisingly, the Pep Boys Central spokesperson did not want to be quoted or have his name used. His comments were "unofficial".
We spent the weekend getting the Prowler de-winterized and ready to go out the week of March 28th. It has been a long winter, and I can hardly wait to be campin' again. If you really want to know how bad it is, Nancy and I spent Saturday evening laid back in the camper watching "The Forgotten" on DVD, pretending we really weren't sitting in the driveway.
