Instead of using wood for the structure, a good material to use is Homasote 440 Sound Barrier. This is a structural board that isn't too heavy, but has a Noise Reduction Coefficient of 0.20. It's also readily available at local lumberyards ($16 here locally for 1/2" x 4'x8' sheet). More info at: www.homasote.com
