The "blanket" lying over the genhead/alternator is an old starter insulator wrap that I had lying around (I used to have a '73 DeTomaso Pantera with a 351 Cleveland - the headers would bake the starter and it would quit working!). I initially wrapped it over the alternator and down between the alternator and the muffler enclosure to "protect" the alternator from radiated muffler heat. THEN, I discovered the alternator was getting hot from within ... the temp rise was about the same with/without the wrap. The more I thought about it, since the heat was internal, the wrap might even be containing the heat and making it worse! I removed it from the alternator and will probably leave it off altogether since the duct blower is so effective. My brother was going to bring me a piece of the reflective insulation like you use to protect floorboards from a catalytic converter, but looks like I really don't need it!

John
