In China the minimum monthly wage for city workers is about 120 US dollars. If a worker averages 40 hours a week that is 120 hours in 4 weeks. Add two additional work days with 16 hours and the minimum hourly wage is something like $.88 per hour. Truthfully, most unskilled Chinese workers average about $.50 in US dollars per hour and spend much more time working than 40 hours a week.
Compare this to a minimum wage of $7.25 and up in the US for unskilled labor.
Chinese skilled labor can command a much higher salary. But, it pales against the hourly wage of our skilled union workers.
Do the math. We want cheap (low cost) goods and high wages and benefits. In a competitive world economy, our see-saw is somewhat out of balance :h ........ and no, I would not even begin to make on-line suggestions as to how to fix the problem.
