Your right, it does..... My wife asked me the same thing.
Since the engine needs to run at a constant speed, steering it would be fine, but driving it could be interesting. The technology exists for both hydraulic and mechanical constant speed drives, but I have seen it only on airliners. I was a lot stronger back then, but they were still pretty heavy.
