Next time it happens, try removing the gas cap while it is occurring.
It's not uncommon to get a defective cap that doesn't vent properly - As the engine runs for a while, the gas it consumes gradually builds up a vacuum inside the gas tank. If the cap doesn't properly vent off this vacuum, it will eventually get strong enough to starve the engine for gas. Result: Engine bogs down, even when there's no electrical load connected to the generator.
