I give up all pride when I see something in the trash that I consider valuable (to me).
When the trash pick-up trailer in the campground made it's rounds Friday I went out to toss a bag of kitchen garbage. That is when I saw three blocks of acoustic sound deadening foam in the trash wagon.
This is high quality stuff - high dollar too. It is what we used in the video studios to stop echos back in the days when I worked with the VA DOE and public TV.
I used some polyurethane glue to attach two of the foam blocks to spots in the generator compartment for the Volvo. Previously I had some carpet glued there.
Difference? Amazing!! I don't have my dB meter with me to give actual sound levels, but my ears tell me just two pieces of this stuff really make a difference.

Pieces as found sitting on Picnic Table

Piece glued to inside of fiberglass fairing adjacent to recoil starter end.

Piece glued to aluminum fuel tank end next to muffler side of genny.

Fairing closed - generator sits slightly rearward and underneath the passenger door on the Volvo.
